At the end of Calvary Road in Badacsonytomaj, a unique little church offers tourists a place to rest.
One of Badacsonytomaj's most famous landmarks is the two-towered Basalt Church, built in the 1930s. The church's magnificent towers inspired local painter Erzsébet Udvardi, whose greatest dream was to have a Way of the Cross and a chapel on Badacsony Hill. Unfortunately, Udvardi did not live to see her dream come true, but the Calvary Way and the chapel preserve her memory. The first to be completed was the St. Stephen Chapel, which was finished in 2014 with local participation.
The Calvary Way reaches the chapel and the Golgotha opposite it at the 14th station. We can rest in the Apostles' Grove on this clearing: 12 trees surround the grove, commemorating the apostles, and in front of them are 12 thoughts carved in stone. Although most Calvary roads have 14 stations, here there are three additional stations commemorating Christ's resurrection, ascension, and the descent of the Holy Spirit. The 17th station leads to the memorial of Pope John Paul II and the Klastrom well.
Badacsonytomaj is famous for its two-towerd church made of basalt.
