The Local History and Ethnographic Collection is located in the centre of Badacsonytomaj. Its material was collected by Miklós Nagy (1908-1988). In the museum, the past comes to life and you can learn about the history of tools used in the old trades.
The Local History and Ethnography Collection was opened here in the centre of Badacsonytomaj in 1983. As a result of years of persistent collecting work, the museum boasts a great collection. The items exhibited were collected by Miklós Nagy, a teacher and local historian and the members of the Local History Section led by Nagy himself. The building where the collection resides was built by Ferenc Csala and his wife Erzsébet Hámos in 1898. Thanks to the work of the collectors, the past is still alive today. The furnishings of the building are very mixed, but at the same time very valuable, as they cover almost every aspect of Badacsonytomaj's past. The fishermen's nets and the tools of the vineyard remind us of everyday life in the past, the documents and photos recall the old times. The development of the hill and the village can be traced back as well due to the rich collection. An interesting feature of the house is the eight-pointed harpoon, which only the villagers living in Tomaj had among the fishermen of Lake Balaton. The utensils, furniture and documents in this thatched-roofed, whitewashed farmhouse give a picture of the village's past, the life and customs of the people who lived here.
Planned opening: 1 May 2025.
