Pauline Monastery Ruins of Salföld

Pauline Monastery Ruins of Salföld

Uncover the hidden treasure of the forest near Salföld: the ruins of the old Pauline monastery, and immerse yourself in history!

The hike to the Salföld Pauline Monastery ruins starts from the village of Salföld, following well-marked trails that lead to the historic site. Located between Badacsonyörs and Salföld, these ruins are the remains of Hungary’s only Pauline monastery. The monastery has remained beautifully preserved, built in Gothic style, and its arched windows are still impressive today. Locally, it is often referred to as “Kőkúti.” During the reconstruction of Salföld, many stones from the building were removed, but the ruins have always remained a popular tourist attraction. Next to the building, there is a clearing with a fire pit, benches, and tables, making it ideal for a rest. The ruins are easily reachable on foot, about 2 km from the southern end of Salföld, with a gentle walk and minimal elevation change. The full hike is approximately 3 km long, with an elevation gain of 100 meters, and can be comfortably completed in 1–1.5 hours, making it perfect for families and beginner hikers.
