For us, winemaking is always a creative process, a sort of sacrament where apart from the two friends and the wine, only the good Lord is present. We make wine that we ourselves enjoy drinking. For us every wine has a story, whether it is a historical event, a moment of love or even a joke.
In our family, grape and wine culture is passed down from father to son. One of our great-grandfather was thewine dresser of the Prince Esterházy family in Badacsony until 1945, when he continued farming on a small vineyard purchased from the state. As the change of regime came in 1989, Tihamér Sipos dreamed up the foundations of the Sipos Wine House, based on the family's small vineyard and small cellar. The small winery has continued to grow, the acreage has increased and they have built a modern cellar to make the most out of the grapes.
Today, the artisan winery is run as a friendly business, with Balázs Tihamér Sipos, the founder's son, and winemaker Krisztián Altinger are responsible for the wines.
The sub-Mediterranean climate on the southern slopes, with the sun rays reflected by Lake Balaton and the soil developed on volcanic bedrock, make Badacsony wine unmistakable from other wine regions. They currently cultivate 7 hectares of vines: kéknyelű (Bluestem), Welsch Riesling, Muscat Ottonel, Pinot Gris, Green Veltelini, Rózsakő and our new plantings: yellow Muscat, Riesling and Cabernet Franc.
