Csobánc

Csobánc

A popular hiking destination in the region is Csobánc, home to the ruins of a former border fortress perched at its summit.

The hike begins in the village of Gyulakeszi, where we head toward the mountain along the road next to the village church. This road can be driven for a short distance, and there's a grassy parking area at the start of the trail where hikers can leave their car or bicycle.

From the parking area, the trail leads uphill. At a fork in the path, a roadside cross marks the crossroads. Here, we turn left and continue until we reach the so-called “Rossztemplom” (Bad Church) — a mysterious, vegetation-covered ruin. From this point, we turn right and head directly toward the mountain.

The trail winds gently up the slope, offering benches at several points where hikers can rest. Throughout the climb, it’s worth pausing to take in the stunning panoramic views, which only improve as we get closer to the summit.
